Countries
The Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) works to protect and promote human rights internationally through direct support to organisations working in the first line of defence for human rights. At present time, the Fund operates mainly in four priority countries, but exceptions can be made depending on the area and aim of the project applying for support.
The NHRF intends to maximise the impact of our support and contribute to sustainability in selected countries, while at the same time retaining our global character. Between 70 and 80 % of our grants are directed to a selection of prioritised countries, while another ten countries are eligible for support. Both prioritised and eligible countries are periodically circulated.
As of 2012, the following are NHRF prioritised countries:
- Colombia
- India
- Liberia
- Pakistan
The following are countries eligible for support:
- Lebanon
- Mexico
Exceptions from geographical priorities are made for projects focusing on the protection of human rights defenders. The NHRF will consider applications for this line of work regardless of geographical origin.
